Miguel Antonio Flores is a graduate of Global Academy’s Diploma in Professional Culinary Arts. At a young age, he was exposed in the culinary industry because of his father who was a major influence in his fondness of cooking and experimenting in the kitchen. His education in Global Academy did not only teach him the techniques in cooking but also how to work well with other people, giving him the necessary skills, knowledge and experience needed to survive in the real culinary industry.
Miguel is now a (demi chef de partie) sushi chef and hibatchi chef commonly known as teppanyaki chef at Benihana Restaurants at Al Bustan Rotana Hotel, a five-star hotel in Dubai. He can say that because of the culinary background he gained in the Philippines, he was able to work at par with more experienced chefs in Dubai. His greatest achievement would be winning in a culinary competition where he was recognized by the management and his co-workers. According to him, he owes all of these recognition to Global Academy for teaching him not only the techniques but also P.R.I.C.E (core values: Passion, Reliability, Integrity, Commitment, Excellence).
His advice to aspiring chefs and alumni of Global Academy is to put your heart in cooking. Try to learn something new everyday. Go out of your comfort zone and always, always believe in yourself.
“The only real stumbling block is fear of failure. In cooking you’ve got to have a what-the-hell attitude.” -Julia Child
