The first Pancit Canton Renovation Cookfest with our co-partner, Excellent Noodles, was held last November 16, 2013 at Global Academy Makati. The Renovation Cookfest showcased dishes and recipes highlighting pancit canton as a delighful alternative to the usual international and native delicacies. Sixteen (16) teams registered to battle it out in the kitchen. These teams came from the different branches composed of ongoing students and alumni with all the Head Chefs and some chef instructors as their coaches. Their tasks were to come up with 1. pancit canton dishes as alternative to pasta, rice, side starch, and salad component and 2. create a new pancit canton variant. Ms. Ada Serrano, General Manager of Jeverps Manufacturing Corporation (manufacturer of Excellent Noodles), was very impressed and delighted with the outcome and presentation of all the recipes. Most were unexpected flavours or variants but yielded delicious and palatable dishes.
The three judges of the Renovation Cookfest were Chef Christine Sumera (Global Academy Chef Instructor), Atty. Jojo Taloma (Legal Marketing Officer for Jeverps Manufacturing Corporation), and Chef Kavino Lau (owner of IMC Kavino Restaurant). The three judges were chosen to do the hardest task for the day: to choose the first winners for this cookfest.
At the end of the day, three teams stood out from the rest . The third place winners are, Jerico Littaua and Joshua Locnen (students from Timog). The second place winners, Kimberly Solejon and an alumnus, Arvi-Christopher Agra. They were coached by Chef Victor Sanchez. The first place winners are also ongoing students of Timog branch, Jodie Lo and Lea Cedeno. The first and third place teams were coached by Chef Richard Tan.
All the winning teams received certificates and cash prizes, P5,000.00, P10,000.00, and P15,000.00 for the third, second, and first placers respectively. Also, the coaches were given certificates and cash prizes as follows: third place got P2,000.00, second place bagged P3,000.00, and first place went home with a P5,000.00 cheque.
